WHY SULPHURLESS SUGAR!
In the world where everything is chemical ridden right from the antiseptic to the food items, it becomes necessity to use chemical free items wherever it is possible. One such entity is sugar where chemicals could be avoided. There are many sugar brands which we don’t know about. One of them is Sulphurless sugar. Generally, we are not aware of it as we always use normal sugar. So, we never thought of varieties of sugar.
Now one question comes in our minds is that what is Sulphurless sugar? Sulphur-free sugar is refined without Sulphur or other harmful chemicals. And, since the entire manufacturing operation is hands-free, Sulphur-free sugar is 100% pure, hygienic. When we talk about refining normal sugar, it involves a lot of manual processing as a result, some quantities of Sulphur are retained in the sugar crystals, which when consumed over a period of time, could lead to health hazards (Sulphur when converted to Sulphur dioxide in the body is harmful). That's where Sulphurless sugar steps in. Sulphurless sugar retains the sweetness of sugar but does away with the side-effects of Sulphur.
The growing importance of Sulphur-free sugar for health and environment has prompted a former scientist with the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) to device a process that avoids use of Sulphur in manufacturing sugar and reuse carbon dioxide produced by distilleries. The Sulphur-free sugar we get in western countries are brown in color, which does not go with an average Indian's idea of sugar.
During the festive season, I find myself the ‘Sulphur free sugar’ that is available in the market. Stated very simply, sulphur is an additive used by manufacturers for the purpose of purifying sugar. Sulphurfree sugar does not contain the sulphur residues that are otherwise present in the conventionally cleaned sugars.
It has been scientifically proven that sulphur as a food additive carries the risk of precipitating allergies (asthma) in potentially susceptible individuals. Because of the use of sulphur in the refining process, international markets do not accept most of the sugar processed in India. Additionally, sugars cleaned with sulphur release sulphur dioxide during the storage process, which is yet another undesirable effect of such sugars.
At this point, I must clarify that the sulphur that is naturally present in some foods is quite different to the sulphur that is added to foods. Foods such as eggs, cheese, nuts, milk and meats contain Sulphur rich amino acids that are essential for maintaining good health. But the effect of the chemical sulphur, added to foods for purification and preservation purposes, is quite different.
Great sense of knowledge is essential for everyone about the product they use as it is the only source to live healthy and happy life.
